Last of the Mohicans

Last of the Mohicans

Well!
I have been thinking and talking about some type of art and here is my first attempt.

The technique is pretty simple.
Take the leftover bits from some project, in this case a cutout from a bathroom sink install and the leftover paint from many decorating projects and do it.

I installed a screw in the back and chucked it up in an electric drill. Turned on the drill and added the paint. I painted the board and then added the red. After that was dry I added the white. The process went extremly well until I tried to stop after the white. When I stopped the drill the piece continued to spin until the screw screwed out and the piece took off like a helicopter. I had to catch the thing in mid-air. I never thought that art might be a contact sport.

When I looked at it the name just popped into my head.

Here it is the last day of January and it is going to be in the 60's. It is cold this morning, got ice on the tile saw. Will try to finish up with the tile and then if it don't get too windy I will go sailing.

I think there will be nothing productive tomorrow.

I do know that the lights and fan are working and that the drywall is done except for finishing.

I am ready to start the tile work.

Yesterday I painted the piece of wood that will become my first art piece. I think I will try to start on that.

Gonna be a good day!

You can tell from the pumpkin footgear that the Scarecrow is taking the day off. It is rainy and windy today so I spent the morning working on the kitchen exhaust fan.

After lunch and a rootbeer smoothie I took a little nap and now I am cooling my heels and looking out the window at the barn.

Yesterday I took the 4-wheeler to the shop for some recall work. Something about the wheel falling off. Now that would upset the pumpkin cart.

Lets Do?

There is probably not a week that goes by when I don't say, Lets do Mexican or, Lets do Italian or Lets do Something. Now I know this isn't very exciting but what do the people from other countries say?

Some one from Japan might say, Lets do Italian. Or some one from Russia could say' Lets do Indian. Now I know that the language doesn't look any thing like this but since I only have an English keyboard, this is as good as it gets.

Now, do you suppose there is ever a situation where someone from Greece says, Lets do American. Now if that happened, Just exactly what would they do? The first thing that comes to mind is, Fast Food. You know, Mickey D, Arby, Burger King, Taco Bell.
I am sure there must be something that I am missing but that's what I am thinking.

Favorite Things

Favorite Things
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
Just before I retired, I received some input from an old retire. He said that I would be doing things that I never did before. He went on to say that when he retired he wore the same pair of pants for two days in a row. I was shocked and asked, what kind of a rebel he was.

But less than a year later I found myself doing things two days in a row.

I had two days of oat cakes for breakfast and two days of sailing. What makes this extraordinary is not the oat cakes but the sailing. In January, what a piece of work.

These are a couple of my favorite things.

This may take some time and I hope you don't loose intrest. When we built this house we got fed up with the local craftsmen and needed to save some money. So we moved in before everything was complete.

We did not get the backsplash done because we just had to figure out what we wanted.

Well here we are at crunch time. We have the tile figured out and have the lights and exaust fan. I just need to get all the electric hooked up and get started with the tile.

I finished up the front and then started on the left. All the steel was custom cut at the factory now it takes both sides of my brain to remember where it goes.

Me and the Babe did our fall yard work. You know, rake the rocks. We only have one patch of grass that we can cut with a pocket knife. We had to water all of the bushes we planted because it never rains here.

Oat Cakes

Oat Cakes
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
When I was a kid, it was oatmeal every morning. One of the by-products of this menu was lots of leftover oatmeal. Mom would make this leftover into patties and fry them. We always liked these better than the bowl of mush.

I now make special oatmeal just so I can make the cakes.
I use steel cut oats because they have a better texture than instant or old fashion.

Make up the oats and let them cool overnight. Fry them in olive oil to a golden brown with a nice crust.

Now this is where it gets trickey. I used to just put honey on the
cakes but I recently discovered that a sweet/ savory taste is really good. I am using Durkeys steak dust to compliment the honey. I think you could use anything, hot sauce is pretty good. You will have to figure this out for yourself.

Well almost a milestone. Three sides of the top are done. There is a bit of bother with the doors on the far end.
I have to figure out where to put the tracks for the sliding doors and then I can complete the siding.

The siding takes quite a bit of time cutting and carrying. Don't want to cut my self. The cut edges are pretty sharp.

The days have been nice and I find myself wanting to goof off.

Nuts

Me and the Babe were taking an afternoon break. It's not that we do so much, but we always take a break.
Max and Maggie were at the groomer and due to be home soon. They always miss lunch and are ready for a catch up so we were getting the chow ready.

Our break is pretty simple, we sit down. This time we were sitting and eating a few nuts. Nuts for the nuts! Sitting , chatting and munching.
Well you can probably see this one coming. I turned around and the Babe was turning red and spitting. Bad nut, I thought. Not even close. Not paying attention she had grabbed a hand full of dog chow.

Babe, Ya killin me!

Well this was the end of the break so it was back to work.

Warm and Fuzzy

I have always had this thing about waking up in the night. Depending on the time, I would feel Warm and Fuzzy or be bummed out. If the time was before 4:00AM, Warm and Fuzzy. If the time was after 4:00 AM, bummed out.
The Warm and Fuzzy was such a good feeling. It made me smile and snuggle down.

All this feeling made a lot more sense when I was working and had to get up and go. Now that I don't have to get up it wasn't making much difference.

Well last night I went to bed at about 11:00pm and went right to sleep. When I woke up it was black as night and I felt pretty good. But when I looked at the clock and saw that it was 11:57pm I was shocked. But then the old Warm and Fuzzy settled in and I smiled and snuggled in.
This was the ultimate Warm and Fuzzy.

Blast from the Past

You know how sometimes, things just pop into your head. It might be a song or something that you or someone else said or did. Well there I was, just sitting there, when POP!, there it was.

When I was a little kid. This was a long time ago. You know, when you walked up hill to school, both ways. When cars had steering wheels that were as big as a full sized spare tire. When we didnt have air conditioning. You know what I am talking about. Well we didnt have air conditioning and the summer was really hot. The mind of a small kid is a strange place because there are always games to be played. Back to really hot! There were more that one thing to do on a really hot day. Go to the pool, soak in a tub, in the yard, lay on the basement floor. My all time favorite was to play artic explorer. This involved dressing up in all of your winter clothing and then trudging around during the hottest part of the day. It was lots of fun if you could get a whole group because you could tie the group together with a rope. Wait for it! So they didn't get lost. We sure had a good time with this. And when you took the coat and boots off. You sure were cool.

We was Robbed

Scarecrow
This tale starts out ok, but turns sour in the end. We do however, come back to triumph.

Me and the Babe, hoping to get our ice cream fix, head down to the name brand shop. This is where the day went south. I ordered my favorite and the Babe ordered a root beer float with chocolate ice cream. They were out of my favorite and I had to substitute. Now this is where things really got bad. The Babe got her float. One scoop of ice cream in a cup of hot root beer. Well we should have walked right out, but NOOOO! We just sat right there and bitched an each other. We swore on the graves of our ancestors, never to return.

We just couldnt get over it so we came up with a plan. Half gallon of chocolate/ chocolate chip ice cream and a 6 pack of IBC root beer, that should be plenty. We then filled two huge mugs with all the ice cream and added 3 root beer's each. Now thats a root beer float!!!

Well, knowing that there would be no way to order this extravaganza we deceided to name it. We called it a Chocolate Root Beer Smoothie. We get some strange looks when we order. We just say fill it with ice cream and blend it with cold root beer.

Problem solved.

I started to move some of the treasures from the garage to the barn. The Babe is getting ready for that potting bench in the garage.
