Well never the less.
The boat would stay on course as long as I just sat near the tiller. But let me step away, eat a sandwich, blow the nose. Well you get the picture, rogue waves sweeping the deck, sand bars, logs. It was always unexpected disaster.
The auto helm will solve all this problem. Set it on a heading and get on with the fun.

Josh gets Jiggy

Josh gets Jiggy

Well!
We had quite a few days of holliday. Got some days up around 70.

We were sailing the day after Christmas. Flying the full main and the spiniker and ripping right along. Josh was at the tiller and got jiggy, breaking his leash. We were both surprised to see him heading for Davy Jones locker. Fast action by Capt'n Scarecrow, saved the day. Dont know if I will be able to get him back on the tiller. He will probably peer out the port hole. (Some Help)
I got a auto helm to do the steering so Josh can take it easy.

Down the alley

Down the alley
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
This picture is looking down the alley from the big door. There is not much finish work on the in side of a barn. The loft will have some finish work unless I fill it full of hay.

Me and Josh took the day off and went sailing. Temprature was about 60 with plenty of wind.

Not bad for December.

I See Red

I See Red

This thing is starting to come together. All of the roof, except the lower right is done. Now that I have fineshed the upper roof I can take the scafoldig down and complete the lower roof. I got some of the red up but will have to figure out how the doors will go together before I do any more work on the exterior.

If you yook close you can see the stairs to the upper part. Also to the right of the building, is Mr. Scarecrow.

I think me and Josh are going sailing tomorrow.

Cookie Day

Yesterday was a busy day.
First I called the lumber yard and reminded that the promised delevery date had passed. Also asked what the $10 delevery charge actualy got me. Needless to say, they were there before I could turn around. Nearly complete with the roof and I am starting to see red. (The outside is red)

After lunch I helped the Babe make cookies. I was in charge of measuring and testing. About 25 years ago, while in a fit of poetry. I wrote this poem about cookies.

Cookies Cookies

Cookies Cookies their so fine
I love to eat them all the time

I grab them dudes hot off the pan
And pop them down like a mad man

Without them cookies I would be glum
But with them cookies I say Yum

Tradition

Tradition
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
Me and the Babe were sitting around the tree talking about Christmas past. Ever since we were kids we both had the same tradition of laying on the floor with our head under the tree. We would look up thru the branches and almost tip the tree over.

Well!
We got down under the tree and took a look.

It was not quite the same. Our heads were too big, Our eyes couldnt see that close, the branches were too close together. But there we were laying there together like a couple of kids.

The tradition now includes,
(helping each other up)

Dont he look happy!

Scarecrows are a curious lot. So I was not surprised to see this one keeping an eye on the construction.

Where do scarecrows sleep? In the haystack or do they just hang around?

It wont surprise me if they move into the barn.

What in the world would you use to scare a scarecrow?

More is better

More is better

I always say that if a little is good, more is better. They are great company for each other and for me and the Babe. They are always into something and with Christmas nearing they are looking under the tree. Max is the Christmas hound. It doesnt make any difference how old the toy is, if you wrap it up it becomes new and Max likes to open them.

But wait! There's more!

MAGGIE

This is Maggie. She is a 13 year old Scotish Terrier. She also is still living at home and thinks we are part of her pack. She sunggles with me and the Babe and is a great comfort to my cold head, in the middle of the night. Maggie would eat all day long with her favorite being, bird seed.

Room at the top

Back to work after some sailing and some Christmas shopping. Sitting around this morning waiting for the frost to melt off the roof. I managed to get the steel on the upper roof and the front of the lower roof. Today I will work on the lower roof at the back. You can see that the left lower roof is not done. I had to use the roof boards for a scafolding to service the upper roof. You see the porch where I will set in the summer and goof off. The doors are from the dinning room of my last house. Well I got to go to work.

Blue Max (Road Trip)

Blue Max (Road Trip)
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
It's not always fun and games aboard the Blue Max. Today was about 45deg and it reminded me of about this time last year. We were in the process of moving the boat from Texas to Missouri. I had purchased the boat and trailor from a preacher who told me how to put the boat on the trailor. Now who would doubt a man of god. The weather was windy and cold and the water was colder. I got the boat stuck, half on, half off. Well you probably saw this comming, I had to go for a swim. The one thing that I can pass on from the experience is, "If the water temprature is less than your age, DONT!! go in"

Well I said some things about god's represenitive that probably will be on my record. As soon as I dried off I rounded up Popeye and paid him to get er done.

This is not a boat to be on and off the trailor every weekend.

Josh at the tiller

Josh at the tiller

As you can see Josh is doing a fine job handling the Blue Max. I am involved with the photo opp and will releive him later.

The Blue Max is a 21ft Freedom with a modified Cat rig. It has a 25ft unstayed carbon fiber mast. The boat is rigged to be sailed single handed. All sails can be worked from the cocpit. It was in the low 50s today and I needed a break from the barn.

He is named after one of the first single handed around the world sailors. I have had Josh for many years and he has brought me good luck. He is not very big but packs a big ju ju. His current port is lake Stockton on board the sailing vessel Blue Max. Josh takes the tiller when I work the sail.

Well Josh has to get to bed because he is going sailing tommorow.

The Barn

PC090027
Originally uploaded by stogscrow.
I started out this morning with the intention of installing the steel roofing on the upper section. There was a heavy coating of frost and ice so had to change plans. I built the stairs to reach the loft.

I started on this building during the third week in August. I have done all the work myself so it goes pretty slow sometimes.

I had some plans but it was going to be too big. 36 X 60 with a full loft. I cut it back to 36 X 48 with half a loft. It will be more room than I need but I have got a lot of stuff that I cant find right now. The barn is about 250 feet from the house and sets in the woods. When I am not working I can watch nature.

Tomorrow will be about 55 and the ice has melted so the steel is going up. Black on the roof and red on the sides with white trim.

What's in a name

There seems to be some controversy over Crowgal vs Scaregal. When I originaly posted the Mrs as Crowgal I felt bad about the visual so I changed it to Scaregal. Kind of a garden fem fatal. Well there may still be some stigmatizm attached to that. So from here on the Mrs will be refered to as, "the Babe in the Woods".

All last summer it was hummingbirds. Now we are getting finches. Hundreds of them. We have 4 feeders and it's standing room only.

My great great grandfather had birds too. He also had an extremly large ox. Well one day the ox was legs up. All stood around wondering what to do with the carcass, no ideas. Well the next morning, vultures started to arrive and set in on the beast. There were so many birds that were so full of ox that all the trees in the yard broke down. after about a week, the beast was gone, the birds were gone and the trees were no more.

Scarecrow

End of the day:

Worked on the barn till about 2:00pm.
Got all the facia board on and will start putting the roof on tomorrow. It never got above 20deg.
Took the scaregal to the doctor and she has a ear infection and a cold. Got her some meds.

I unpacked the little ivory turtle that I received as a gift about 25 years ago. This turtle is named Joshua and will shortly take up residence on the sailing vessel Blue Max. Josh as brought me luck and protected me. His new task will take all of his good ju ju.

The turtle is named after Joshua Slocum who in the late 1800's sailed singlehanded around the world in his boat the Spray.

As soon as I get the picture buisness figured out, all will be revealed.

Scarecrow

Well!
Gonna have to get some practice!!!

First item:
In the picture of me and crowgal I am not eating a piece of cheeeeeeese. I am in fact, doing my world famous impression of wallace.

Now having set that straight, here is the news of the day.

Crowgal has the flu! And from her troubled mind she sent me a message in the form of a dream. In this dream she said that all of the Harry Potter actors had their new line of cowboy boots with their likeness on the tops. She then went on to say that we needed to go and get her some. Well this was pretty wild so I asked her about it this morning. She said , WHAT! ARE YOU CRAZY!

Looking out of my forest, my neighbor across the road has a big brown labarador retreiver. This big dog is evidently a puppy who either thinks he is a pony or that the ponies are dogs because he spends a big part of his day playing with the ponies. Those ponies look like they are fed up with him.

Well I will try and get the pictures figured out but have got to do something useful today.
